Activities and Excursions

Studying at Oxford is such a unique experience because of the range of extra-curricular activities on offer. Check out our blog to see pictures of our activities in 2011.

Magdalen CollegeOn our first Monday afternoon we’ll be conducting a tour of Oxford’s most famous colleges. The students will visit Magdalen College, University College and New College. We will learn about college life at Oxford, about accommodation and food as well as speaking to some students about their experiences.

These colleges were also used as sets in a number of Harry Potter films, so students will be able to see the Weeping Willow and the corridors of Hogwarts on our tours.

On Tuesday evening, we will be visiting the theatre. The play is likely to be William Shakespeare’s As You Like It staged outside at the Old Schools Quadrangle in the heart of Oxford.

Trinity College, University of CambridgeOn Friday, we will be visiting Cambridge to look around the other famous University city. This trip is always a favourite with the students. We will get to look inside St John’s, Trinity and Downing colleges, at all the facilities and amazing architecture. The students then meet up with a number of current students from Cambridge. This Question & Answer session explores the differences between the two universities and their admissions process. Students are given free time to explore the city and we end our trip with punting tour down ‘The Backs’ in Cambridge. This picturesque tour takes us down the River Cam behind a number of the largest colleges, giving us excellent views of the elaborate bridges and King’s College chapel.

Blenheim Palace, Oxford

In the second week, we’ll be heading off to Blenheim Palace, famous as the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill. Built in the 18thc, the magnificent palace is set in over 2000 acres of beautiful parkland, surrounded by sweeping lawns, formal gardens and the Great Lake. We take part in a tour of the house, learning about the turbulent life of the Marlborough family, followed by a walk in the beautiful grounds and a trip to the super-exciting maze.
